Old New Club

Old New Club is my upcycled fashion label. I hand-paint masks onto thrifted denim jackets and show each one-of-a-kind piece as a 3D scan.

Overview

Old New Club is a hobby, and part of a longer exercise: making old ways of living and new technology work together. In 2025, denim jackets were having a moment and AI agents had just started writing code. I planned 13 jackets, each painted with a mask. I wanted no traditional product photography and no checkout flow, so I used 3D scans to carry everything.

The question

How might we let new tech present old clothes -- one page and no checkout?

The scan is the product photo

I found Sam Peitz exploring 3D scans and knew this was what I wanted to explore. I sketched 13 circles, one per jacket, then a mask for each as overlapping ovals, styled like the Nine Face jacket. Those sketches turned into the scans themselves. I scanned each painted jacket on my iPhone with Scaniverse, an app that builds a 3D model as you walk around an object. The scans are rough, with holes and stray edges. That is the point: tech that will look old, on clothes that already are.

Crude tech ages into a look.

Each jacket spins on its own turntable

Framer could not show a 3D file on its own, and I am not trained in code. Years ago I taught myself enough HTML and CSS to build old versions of my website. In 2025 I designed the site in Framer and built a custom 3D viewer with ChatGPT, then Claude. Each jacket spins by itself on the brand red, and a visitor can drag it around. The AI wrote the code I could not; what to build, and how it should look, still came from me.

Not knowing how to code is no longer the limit. Taste is.

Visitors ask instead of checking out

A checkout was not worth building for a handful of one-off pieces. Each jacket shows its name, price, label and size: "Nine Face", a Wrangler in extra large, is $250. One Inquire button opens an email, and the footer says "don't see your size? ask for it." Two newer jackets are scanned but not on the site yet. They are portfolio exclusives: inquire for the price.

A few one-of-one pieces do not need a cart.

Takeaways

About half of the 13 jackets got made. Four are live on the site, and two more are scanned and waiting for a page.
